SPF, which is an acronym for Sender Policy Framework, is an email safety system, which is used to verify if an e-mail message was sent by an authorized server. Using SPF protection for a given domain name will stop the faking of email addresses generated with the domain. In layman's terms: enabling this function for a domain creates a particular record in the Domain Name System (DNS) which contains the IP of the servers that are permitted to send emails from mail boxes using the domain. Once this record propagates globally, it will exist on all DNS servers that direct the Internet traffic. When an e-mail message is sent, the initial DNS server it goes through tests if it originates from an accredited server. When it does, it is sent to the destination address, however when it doesn't originate from a server indexed in the SPF record for the particular domain, it's rejected. In this way nobody will be able to mask an email address then make it appear as if you're sending spam. This technique is also referred to as email spoofing.

SPF Protection in Shared Hosting

If you host your domain names in a shared hosting account on our end and we handle the emails for them, you'll be able to enable SPF protection for any of them with a couple of clicks in your Hepsia Control Panel. The service can be found in a separate section where you can view which domain names are already protected. For the ones which aren't, you can enable the SPF protection solution and configure numerous things in the process - the hostnames of the mail servers that are allowed to send messages from your email addresses, the IPv4 and IPv6 addresses of the servers, as well as to set a rule that emails can be sent only when your domain names have our MX records. The aforementioned option is the most secure one, but you can use it in the event that we take care of the emails for your domains and you are not using a different e-mail service provider. The newly created records will propagate within 1 day and nobody will be able to fake the FROM field in a message with your e-mail addresses.

SPF Protection in Semi-dedicated Hosting

If you have a semi-dedicated server account with us, you are able to protect your email addresses by activating the SPF security service for every domain name hosted in the account with just a few mouse-clicks. This can be done in the Emails section of our Hepsia Control Panel which is included with the semi-dedicated accounts and even if you have no previous practical experience with such matters, you won't have any difficulties to activate the protection. The only things that you'll have to do will be to select a domain name from a drop-down menu and then type the mail server hostname and IPv4 or IPv6 address. As soon as the updated record propagates, messages from your emails will be mailed around the world only if they were sent from that particular server. When your emails are handled by our company and not by some third-party supplier, you'll also be able to activate an option for e-mail messages to be sent only if the domain features our MX records and the latter is the most secure option. When you have any questions regarding thisfeature, you can get in touch with our tech support crew 24/7.
